The annual inspection of the Hongkong Volunteer
The man
Corps took took place in beautiful weather on Saturday afternoon on
the Murray Barracks parade ground, before His Excellency Major-
General Broadwood. Thore wee a large attendance of civilians, who
followed the movements of the corps with great interest.

Chapman, and there were nearly 250 mon on parade. Major General
Broadwood arrived on the ground little after three, and the men were subjected to a close inspection. The field guns of the corps were handled in a praiseworthy manner by the artillery, and the parch past by all the men in double file also reflected the highest credit
on the men and their officere.
After the inspection, Major General Broadwood,
addressed the men said: - Colonel Chapman, officers and men, HI.K.V.C.
I have been very pleased throughout the past training with the work
you have done towards making yourselves efficient as men. I was
particularly pleased at the keenness shown by those who were able to attend the camp in the New Territories, and i consider that camp &
great advance from the point of view of practical soldiering on any
previous camp I have seen here. I am sorry to say, that the Corps
is far from being filled up to its establishment. I know that there
are plenty of able-bodied men in the Colony who would come forward
